Introducing Myself

My name is Lauren and I've been living in Wollongong for the past 6 years. I studied at the university here and graduated from a Bachelor in Medical Mathematics with Honours in Statistics in 2015. Since graduating, I've been working in a research position in the statistics department of the university. My role is to collaborate with industry to provide statistical analysis for the Australian grains industry, hence the choice of a wheat field as the background for my blog.

I am currently enrolled in the Master of Teaching (Secondary) course at Charles Sturt University and aim to become a maths teacher. I enjoy my current job but a career in teaching has always been something I've wanted to pursue. My mum is an incredibly passionate and resourceful teacher and I would love to follow in her footsteps.

I don't have any formal teaching experience but I appreciate the use of technology in classrooms is essential and believe a subject that describes the full scope and the most effective use of such resources will be useful to my training as a teacher.

I'm exposed to a wide range of technologies in my job, including the use of computer software programs to complete analysis, database storage systems and drone technology for the collection of data in field experiments, just to name a few. I'm interested to learn more about some of the new and innovative technologies, like drones and 3D printing, and how these are incorporated into a classroom setting.

  1. Hi Lauren, I went to UOW too, though I finished in 1997... Probably not long after you were born! I'm studying maths teaching too so hopefully we can connect. My blog is http://missgeeveoustech.blogspot.com.au

  2. So cool that you have existing experience in Maths research. I think a lot can be said for teachers who are perhaps "over-qualified" in terms of their understanding of their subject area. Have a broader scope of knowledge to draw upon can often making teaching basic Yr 7 maths more enjoyable and engaging for the child :) Great first Blog!

    2. Thanks Mark! I hope so, I really enjoy the work that I do and I'm excited to give future students an insight into the way maths is used in the real world. I'll definitely take a look at your blog!
